Sushi Rice
Country: Bouvet Island(This recipe comes from Alton Brown)
Course: Main
Makes: 2 generous servings
Ingredients:
- 1 cup sushi or short grain rice
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt
Directions:
- Rinse the rice in a fine mesh strainer until the water runs clear.
- Put the rice and the water in a small saucepan and turn on the heat. Bring to a boil, then cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 15 minutes, then remove from the heat and, without taking the lid off, let stand for 10 minutes.
- Mix the vinegar with the sugar and salt. You can use a small saucepan to heat the mixture, or you can just pop it into the microwave for 20 or 25 seconds.
- Transfer the rice to a bowl and pour the vinegar mixture over it. Mix thoroughly. Make sure that the vinegar/sugar/salt mixture covers each grain of rice.
- Let the rice stand until it reaches room temperature.

I love international foods and am fascinated by world cuisine and cooking traditions. (Now I just need to get my kids interested, too.)
